Video on demand: Laika the SpacedogKids event

Recorded at Theatre Royal, Norwich, United Kingdom
Free to view

It is 1957 and the Space Race is well underway. As the Americans and Russians compete to be the first to launch an animal into orbit, the hunt is on to find a dog to sit on top of the Sputnik rocket. Then, one afternoon, a little dog called Laika is found in Moscow’s Gorky Park…

See the Kremlin, meet the Russian President, count down to the rocket launch, and sing along with ETO’s singers and orchestra in this fun-filled adventure for all the family.

Laika, the Spacedog flies again in Autumn 2019, touring across the UK to schools and libraries. Written for children aged 7-11 (Key Stage 2) and families, this multi award-winning children’s opera, incorporates many areas of the curriculum, including science, history and literacy as well as music. The music is by Russell Hepplewhite, words and direction by Tim Yealland, design by Jude Munden, and animation by Babis Alexiadis.
